Aviary Photo Editor now available to Flickr users-replacing Picnik

 

Picnik, Flickr's default photo editor, is shutting down this month. Aviary has come to the rescue though, launching an HTML5 based online photo editor into Flickr.

Aviary is a great resource, having online photo and graphics editors, audio editors, web page screen shot extensions and more.

Aviary's photo editor is in the "Actions" menu on Flickr and is easy to use. It is being rolled out over the next few weeks. It's fast, easy to use, powerful, and available on mobile and iOS devices since it is HTML5 based, not Flash.

If you use Flickr, this will be a great resource for you.

Awesome Livebinder of Physics Resources

I recently found this Livebinder of Physics Resources. It has resources, lesson materials and activities, links, and more, all organized by Physics units and topics.

It is well organized with some great resources including video clips from the Mythbusters and other fun resources, simulations, and virtual labs.

It is a great resource for teachers or students, especially for a beginning teacher looking for some help getting their lessons organized and finding resources.

NationStates - free nation simulation game - create and run your own country

NationStates is a nation simulation game that allows you to create your own country with your own politics and ideas and then care for its people, "or oppress them".

You can also interact with other countries, participate in a type of united nations, and run your country as you see fit. There is a news and forum section also to share and get ideas and information.

This is a great way for students to really explore politics and government.

Chemical Education Digital Library - great chemistry resource

The Chemical Education Digital Library is a great resource for chemistry.  The site has lesson resources, educational games, links, communities, tutorials, digital textbooks and more.

It's a great collection of resources that can be used by teachers and students in class as part of lessons, or as reinforcement or help.

The 3-D interactive models are very cool and let you really explore chemicals and compounds.

Science Scene - collection of resources for physical science and environmental

ScienceScene is a site with some great resources for Physical Science and Environment Science classes.

There are links, useful software to use in the class, news, virtual museums, references and much more.

It is a good place to go for some great ideas to use in these classes.

Build-A-Body - very cool interactive biology site - build a human body

Build-A-Body is a very cool interactive site that allows students to build a human body, system-by-system.

It is an easy to use, drag and drop interface, where students drag and drop the different systems, organs, and bones to build a body. Each system has descriptions and information and there are case studies about diseases. 

It would be useful for human biology, medicine, or anatomy classes and allows students to learn and explore the body in a visual, interactive way.

EdCamp CT is 8-10-2012! Great, free PD for educators

Edcamp is a great series of free, unconferences for educators. The Edcamp model is unique in that attendees set the agenda the morning of the conference and the sessions are not led by one person, but are rather a collaboration of both the facilitator and attendees.

EdCamp is coming back to Connecticut this summer. EdCampCT will be held August 10th, 2012. You can sign up here to be notified when registration opens. It will be held at the Ethel Walker School in Simsbury, CT again, which is an absolutely beautiful school.
 

  I attended the first EdCampCT last year and it was awesome. It is so nice to be able to learn about topics you want to learn about in a relaxed, discussion format. It's also nice to know that if you find a session doesn't meet your needs, you can just get up and go to another one and no one's feelings are hurt because that is the model. I learned and shared my knowledge with others. It was a great day.
