PDF Mergy - combine PDF files into one - Chrome web app

PDF files are everywhere. Every operating system and every device I know of can read them. They are a great way to share and publish files since they can be locked, watermarked, and viewed on pretty much any device or OS. Most office suites allow you to save files as PDF formats and there are some other great tools for creating them.

Sometimes you have multiple PDF files that you want to combine into one. I do this often since I save scanned documents as PDF files, as well as much of my own work.

 PDF Mergy 


PDF Mergy is a Chrome web app that makes it easy to merge PDF Files. Drag and drop or select from your computer, place them in the order you want, and then, viola, one merged PDF file. It is all done on their server, not your computer, so this is a great app for use with Chromebooks and for people looking to do everything in the cloud. QuickPDF does the same thing, but needs to be installed on your computer.

Convert PDF to HTML free online

Occasionally, you may want, or need, to convert PDF files to HTML files for use on a website or blog. This site will do that for free for you. PDF to HTML is free, easy to use, will accept files up to 40MB, all web based and has high quality conversions.

It's very easy to use. Go to the site, select your file on your computer, and send it to them. That's it. The quality of the conversion is very good and the files look like they are PDF files still.

PDF Converter is a free site that allows you to convert PDF files to DOC, XLS, or PPT file formats and will also let you create PDF files from almost any file format.

It's very easy to use and there is nothing to download or install on your computer. Simply select the conversion you want to do, upload your file, enter your email address and when the service has finished your conversion, you will get an email with the link to the converted files. There is a file upload limit of 2MB, but there is no limit on how many conversions you can do.

Web2PDF Online is a free service that will convert HTML to PDF for your websites so your visitors can quickly save information on your site to a PDF file. It also keeps track of all of the PDF conversion activities on your site.

It only takes 3 steps to set it up on your site or blog. 1) set the conversion options (page setup, etc) and test it. 2) create the Javascript for your site and 3) copy and paste the Javascript onto your site to create the widget.




The site offers support and it is really easy to use.

This could be a good option if you would like people to be able to save parts of your blog or website as a PDF file, including having students do it as an archive of material for their notes.

Crocodoc - free online file markup service - adds new HTML5 technology

Crocodoc is a great, free tool that I have used often. It is an online service that allows you to upload and markup documents, including PDF files. You can not actually edit the PDF file, but can add text, highlight, draw, and even strikeout text. When you strikeout text, it opens a new text box above the strikeout for you to edit. You can even collaboratively work on documents with other people.

Today, Crocodoc announced that it has new technology and features, adding HTML5 document embedding for PDF files and Microsoft Office files to web products. Crocodoc originally used Flash on it's site and then last year launched it using HTML5 for mobile work.

The new features announced today will allow users to use Crocodc to embed documents into any mobile app or web app. Dropbox, LinkedIn, Yammer, and SAP are using this technology. This is what powers Dropbox's ability to allow you to view documents in your web browser and mobile device without having to download the file.

So, what does this mean for education? It means we can see more web based and mobile apps that can do more with documents. This can help educators share and use documents on mobile devices themselves and with their colleagues and students. It also means that Crocodoc is doing well and should be around for a while, letting us continue to use their excellent site to markup, share, collaborate, and annotate files.
